This weekend was a pretty perfect one full of lots of sleep and laziness.  Yesterday I think I slept ’till two, and by the time we left the house it was 4 and our day was almost gone, but we had a good night of art show and restaurant and magical-munchkin-yellow-brick-road-lantern-parade-going.  It was good.  But maybe I liked today better because it was so cheerfully sunny all day, and because I started the day off with a chocolate/cream cheese muffin and americano at the amazing Bakeshop, and because we did lazy Sunday things like take blog photos and go to the dance club mall, where like usual I didn’t buy a thing, though I did fall hard for this dress at Urban Outfitters (it’s gorgeous, but for $78.00?)

We meant to stop at a park we’ve been to before in Peachtree Heights, but we couldn’t find it and stumbled upon tiny little Sunnybrook Park instead, and it ended up being even better than the one we’d meant to find because it was small and quiet (we were the only ones there) and kind of forgotten about.  It had stone staircases and bridges and wooded paths, but the best part was the stream that’s so perfect for wading.  It reminded me of one I used to go to with my sisters near my grandparents’ house in Tennessee when we were little kids.  And then it made me even more excited for this week’s trip to Tennessee (I leave on Tuesday and promise to do lots of posts on it!).

Other reasons why it was a perfect Sunday?  For one thing I got to wear this dress for the first time.  I’d been looking for a polka dot dress for ages, but the only ones I really loved were too expensive, and the ones I could afford (like some at H&M) were sort of, not great.  I found some at thrift stores, but never one that really fit me until I came across this one on Friday at the thrift store in my suburb.  It’s very ’90s and perfect!  Already short, simple, and even light and Atlanta weather appropriate.  (this weekend I discovered that wearing weather-appropriate clothes makes life so much better)

After that we went home and ate fruit, got excited when Germany beat England in the World Cup game (I don’t really like sports but I do like Germany), tried to run outside in the heat but ended up going home early when I got too lightheaded (or, foot-ed).  And then we made breakfast for dinner–I made biscuits from scratch for the first time ever and Drew fried up some eggs and vegetarian sausage, and then our friend Zack (in overalls) brought over a magical drink he made of whisky and blackberries that is guaranteed to make you write extra strange blog posts.

You look so amazing. And the places you are, are always so wonderful. Girl, you’re so stunning beautiful and absolutely gorgeous. I love this dress so much, it matches you perfect and those shoes, aww. You’re amazing!

You’ve mentioned that you are very keen on running before, but I have a hard time picturing you in modern workout clothes and running shoes, with the pretty, girly dresses and high heels you wear all the time! My boyfriend and I went for a run too yesterday, but only got as far as 4K (we live in The Netherlands, and the heat has kicked in over here as well).
    Have a nice day!

  3. Sarah says:

My heart broke when england got beaten yesterday. I never really had any interest in football, but the world cup somehow always manages to pull me in. My poor country is definately in mourning today!

    gorgeous dress, beautiful place.

I kind of love Germany too! At least, ever since my dad told me that they are really good at defense but awful at offense. For some reason that struck an emotional chord! I keep thinking I have world cup fever but I haven’t watched a single game yet :(

Your photos are beautiful and you should keep wearing polka dots! Vintage polka dot dresses are cut a thousand times better and hang so much better than anything in H&M!

We live in Germany and after the game yesterday, we went driving around and people were going nuts! Honking and flag waving and vuvuzelas and people hanging out of all kinds of (moving) cars. I will be pretty sad for the Germans if they don’t beat Argentina, plus it’s so much fun when they win!

  25. Mandy says:

I have a navy dress just like that and I love the way you styled the outfit! :)

Perfect dress! I like how simple it is – it really is ideal. I’m so impressed that you were brave enough to try running in this heat! I’ve been trying to walk to places a lot more, but the heat is so overpowering – I can’t imagine trying to run!
By the way, I love the new look of your blog! It’s lovely. :)

Aww this dress is perfect!! It fits you like a dream and the length is just right! I need more cute and easy ’90s dresses for the summer…I always feel lazy when it comes to summer dressing! Also, I’m so glad you sleep until 2 sometimes too! haha I tend to sleep until 12-1ish sometimes and everyone thinks I’m nuts! But I’m pretty sure we have similar sleep schedules, because I go to bed extra late as well! A good excuse to sleep in late!!

    xx

  32. Amy says:

That park looks so quiet and serene. That dress was worth the search – it looks wonderful on you. For some reason I am still thrown by all the 90s fashions resurfacing. I think they’re nice, but they don’t draw me in the way other styles will.
Did you know that TCM shows a silent film every Sunday evening? Last night I watched one with Valentino (hadn’t ever seen him in anything before) and thought of you – but it was a swashbuckler, so no pretty costumes.

Love that you’re wearing another polka dot dress!!! :D You’re polka dot fever has started to infect me; I’ve got one dress almost finished (needs buttons/hem) that is a sheer tone-on-tone polka dot, and a thrifted skirt I need to alter that is polka dotted. lol. You’re such bad influence. haha!

Whiskey and blackberries?! YUM! Blackberries have been so expensive here lately, but paired with a good whiskey (lately I’ve been all over Jameson whiskey) it’s tempting to pick up some at the store this week…

I, too, can’t imagine you in running clothes. What are the chances you go running in clogs and pretty dresses? But it’s cool to know that you do some sporty stuff too. Learned something new!
