Dress: The Woman in White Dress c/o Modcloth
Shoes: Topshop
Tights: Clear Ribbon Tights c/o Tabio
Sunglasses: Karen Walker
Bag: thrift store

On Saturday we didn’t have any plans, so Drew, Lauren, and I decided to spend the afternoon being tourists in downtown Nashville.  I really hadn’t been there since I was in high school; I remember my grandma driving us around to the sites in Nashville and seeing the replica of the Parthenon, Music Row, and the old Ryman Auditorium.  And not being interested in country music in the least, but still enjoying the history bits and the downtown tourist kitsch.

This time around I probably had a good time in Nashville for the same exact reasons.  We quickly walked into the Ryman and saw the old printing presses in the amazing Hatch Show Print.  But when we went into Ernest Tubb’s I got more excited seeing photos of Sissy Spacek in Coal Miner’s Daughter than I did looking at signed photos of country western stars.  And while walking down Broadway I mostly kept my eyes open for places that were in that Karen Elson/Jack White Vogue editorial, like Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge.  And then I’d try to imagine those places back in the ’70s, which isn’t all that hard to do.

So I guess it was fitting that we ended our Nashville trip with a visit to Venus and Mars.  I didn’t see Karen and didn’t find anything to buy, but just walking into that place always gives me a rush of inspiration.  Plus it’s right next door to Bongo Java, which has about the best iced mochas I’ve ever had.

I was in Nashville on Saturday too! And around the same area! If I had seen you I would have come up to you. I hardly ever go downtown, but I wanted to duck into American Apparel to grab some high waisted shorts. Have you been to the Belcourt? You should definitely check it out next time you’re there.

I’m just commenting to tell you how mad I am over your shoes! I love them to pieces & was thinking they were from an American store – then I notice they’re from Top Shop which has been in England forever yet they choose not to let me have a pair by not selling them in this country! It’s a tragedy!!xx
