Lately we’ve had a lot of rain here in Atlanta, but the storms we get are the kinds that come out of nowhere, sometimes when the sun’s shining or sometimes right about when you want to go running or blog photo-taking. And usually they go away about as quickly as they got here, and then you’re left with this wonderful tropical haziness. And for a little while the air is cool enough for going on a run or for wearing long sleeves (if you’re crazy like I am).
I just found this blouse in a thrift store this week and had to wear it because it kind of (kind of) reminds me of Julie Christie in Far From the Madding Crowd. I thought I’d be wearing it with the sleeves rolled up, but it was actually pretty perfect for today. Especially since we went to the Farmer’s Market, which is housed in what could be the coldest building in all of Atlanta. We picked up lots of things for a margherita pizza we’re making tonight. I made my first batch of pizza dough from scratch and I’ve got my fingers crossed it will turn out ok.
This weekend was extra lazy. I really don’t have anything to report, except that I ate lots of oatmeal, bought a bathing suit online (this one–it’s my third try this year, and I’m hoping that third time will be a charm?), and finally finished The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, which I’d been reading extra slowly on purpose. And now I kind of want to go to Columbus, GA and give the place another chance.

oh wow – that haze is magical! Gorgeous new blouse, what a find!
What lovely shots! I think the haziness of it works quite well, I can’t believe just how hazy it is though!
These photos are beautiful (: And I would love some rain here! All the plants in my garden need a drink, no matter what I do.
I loved the haze! It looks so ethereal. Beautiful
Gorgeous photos and outfit, as usual. I love the flowers! And the blouse is so cute! It looks perfect on you.
ooh lala! Tres jolie!
Speaking of bathing suits, here’s one of your favorites, Mabel Normand, in a bathing suit in 1912.–

Oooh, thank you, I love it! I wish we could still get away with Mack Sennett Bathing Beauty style swim suits nowadays . . so much prettier.
Aw shucks, these photos are incredible! Dreamland! You look so lovely! I just finished Water For Elephants this weekend, and I’m sorry I read it so quickly! haha Sometimes it’s good to make yourself slow down a little! I’ve also been meaning to read The Heart is a Lonely Hunter–was it wonderful? It’s my sister’s favorite! Maybe that’ll be next! PS: I love margherita pizza tons, and homemade to top it off!?! Send me someee! haha xx
I think you’d love the book, Jessica! Have you read any Carson McCullers? You might want to start with Member of the Wedding–I think you’d like it best.
Also I need to read Water for Elephants! From what you’ve said it sounds amazing!
This outfit is perfect – simple and classic, and it makes you look so put together. I love your outfit combinations! Drew did a great job taking these pictures, they look so misty and beautiful.
These photos have such a haunting quality to them. Love it!
wow, i sure wanna be there when it’s hazy! the photos look beautiful. and you are definitely brave for wearing a long sleeve! but hey, at least you look cute
I love the effect of the haze on the pictures, I actually think it adds to some of them! You’re outfit is absolutely adorable
Those loafers are adorable!
the loafes are so cute. what an interesting haze!
Your photos even look like the madding crowd film and everything. Fantastic blouse, and I love the shoes too, you’re an excellent accessoriser!
Wonderful pictures and clothes!
Soo dreamy! Your blouse is absolutely delightful.
Gorgeous photos and I am madly in love with that blouse.
Drew captures really nice images (:
Lovely Daisies. I love how the outfit is 100% second hand.
The long sleeved blouse is extra romantic looking and the setting for these photos are magic. They are so dreamy!
I especially love the burst of color in the last picture.
Hope the swimsuit works out for you-it’s a cute one
B from A plus B
Thanks, Bea! The swim suit actually did work! I was shocked.
You’re so gorgeous. I love your outfit and the picture effects!

love your outfit. you are so pretty in that blouse. gorgeous.
That blouse is gorgeous!!! I’ve been dying to wear some long sleeves (if nothing else, to change things up), but it’s been sleeveless-only weather pretty much lately. :p *sigh*
Hope your pizza dough-making was successful! I have a pretty decent dough recipe if you’d like it–I make it every week and it’s super easy and almost fool proof.
(Because even though I’m good at cooking, anything that is related to baking is still a gamble for me to make! lol.)

Casey, aww, I don’t think I could get away with long sleeves if I lived where you do either! Isn’t it frustrating?
The dough didn’t turn out but I think it might have been the plain jane flour I used. Also I think we’re opposites, because I can bake but definitely not cook. I was so excited I could finally contribute to a dinner, but then I kind of failed at it.
Wow, so dreamy and stunning photos!
The blouse is fabulous!

Beautiful pics! I love your thrifted blouse.
if that anthropologie suit doesn’t work out you should come to Atlanta Beach! haha. we don’t have anything that’s got that cute retro style but we do have a sale starting next week….
this is my first summer in atlanta and i too am loving all of this summer rain and am even kind of loving the heat….it definitely feels tropical and is a far cry from summer weather in the sf bay area where i’m from!
have you ever done a post on great thift stores in atlanta? i’m still figuring out where to hunt for treasures and haven’t made it much beyond l5p. but then again maybe you don’t want to reveal your secrets…?
-ash
Ashley, I’m glad you like Atlanta! It’s super hot, but don’t you kind of just get used to it after a while?
Thrift stores: have you been to Last Chance? They have everything 50% off on Mondays–definitely a good one!
I love the blouse, it’s very smart and delicate.
Rhiannon, these are some of the most beautiful pictures I’ve seen from you and Drew! He really can work magic with a camera! Straight out of Lula or a David Hamilton photo!
these shots really did turn out great. seems as though that haze gives them a bit of a mystery! these summer rains over in Arkansas don’t ever cool anything down, but instead make everything feel sticky and humid.
the blouse is really great too! reminds me a lot of the stuff Linda Portman would use or a couple of silk blouses I picked up at Goodwill this weekend.
Starr, ha ha, I definitely styled this after a Linda Portman photo . . . One of a girl in a vintage Victorian-looking blouse and cut-offs. Wonderful!
This outfit is just perfection and the photos are wonderful. One of my favourites of yours ever! xxx
That blouse is so incredible, I’m in awe! What a lucky find.

beautiful outfit! I love the haziness of the photos, so romantic

I love that second picture of you — Drew is such a good photographer! Also, I really like the (relatively) new look of your blog. xo
Beautiful photos. Was is really that hazy or did Drew help by breathing on the lens?
Stefan, crazy garden humdity! It fogged up the lens.
Such a pretty blouse!
Your photos are beautiful… could you please please tell me what camera was used to take them… I never new digital cameras could create those beautiful dreamy images. BTW I’m an avid reader of your blog…. Your clothes are always so lovely!
Thanks!! Drew took these with his camera–I think it’s a Cannon Mark II, or something? I can never remember camera names.
I don’t know if I’m more in love with your blouse or with the daisies
You look so cute! This is one of my favorite looks at the moment!! ^.^
these photos are so beautiful. i adore your blouse, im so desperate for one myself, but cant seem to find one I like anywhere. you have such a good eye to piecing together an outfit, and finding items too – i cant believe it was all thrifted, its so rare to find gems like yours in a thrift store in the uk x
The bathing suit is adorable, but I would probably get it in a navy or baby blue. Your outfit is darling too. If I were to wear it, my mom would yell at me a say I look like an old lady, but you look absolutely perfect in it.
Summar, aww, old lady looks are the best kinds! Also I totally agree with you about a blue bathing suit vs. black. Navy would have been best, but they only had this suit in black, but I got it today and I love it!
Such a beautiful david hamilton quality to these!
What lovely photos… I think my favourite is the one where your turquoise-decorated hand reaches out for that full, damp blossom! Your blog is always an inspiration!
So pretty! I found a navy blouse like that yesterday at an op shop but passed it up as I can’t do that look justice.
Such dreamy shots, and I love the entire thrifted outfit.

I am obsessed with white lacy blouses at the moment, particularly ones with cuffs like that. You look beautiful, as usual
Josh was a pizza chef at a restaurant for 3 years before we came overseas, and his pizzas won best pizza in Melbourne in the state newspaper The Age. You should ask him for his secret base recipe! (he’ll totally be happy to share)
Thanks Josie! Ooh and I think I’ll have to bug him about the recipe. The dough I made was pretty bad!
Really beautiful outfit. That blouse is absolutely perfect, and I love the accessories you paired it with.

your blouse is beautiful. i love that incredible collar. your whole outfit is very summer chic.
these pictures are so beautiful and romantic
also, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter is my favourite. Have you read her short story “The Ballad of the Sad Cafe”?
your top is so beautiful
That blouse is gorgeous!
I read Flannery O’Connor and Shirley Jackson for my American Gothic Lit class — I need to remember to add Carson McCullers to my “to read” list!
that blouse is beautiful and your shots are so romantic! the outfit is really similar to the new orla kiely winter collection…perfect way to add the new pieces into my summer wardrobe!

I don’t think I’d have the guts to wear this outfit, but you look phenomenal!

There are various types of trendy sandals that come in different colors, styles and they’re made with different materials. However, there’s one kind of sandal that somehow stands above the rest in getting people’s attention: the boot sandals.
