Dress: Ida Sjostedt Mimi dress, gift from Lisa of Cancan
Shoes: Dolce Vita
Bag: thrift store
Floral wreath: self-made

We’ve been to Swan House before, but when Lisa sent me this dress from her store Cancan I knew it deserved something kind of magical and pseudo-European.  Well, at least Atlanta’s idea of European . . . This house was built in the ’20s for a member of one of Atlanta’s wealthiest families, and it’s pretty grand and flashy and maybe a little bit Gatsby mansion, with fountains and swirling staircases and gardens and a big lawn that looks like it was meant for 1920s dance parties.  The inside looks pretty fancy too–not that we took a tour, but I peeked in.

Maybe I also wanted to go back to Swan House because it kind of reminds me of a flashed-up version of the old chateaus that keep going by in coverage for the Tour de France (Drew’s obsessed, and I like it too because sometimes the commentators sneak in history lessons).  But really I just wanted a backdrop that would be worthy of this dress.  I’ve got a post in the works all about Lisa and her shop because she picks out such good things for it from such good labels (Sretsis, Mini Market, Peter Jensen) and has such good style herself that I just want to pick her brain.  Plus, she’s the nicest!

This dress is from Ida Sjostedt, a label I never heard about ’till I saw Lisa’s shop.  And I think it might be one of my fanciest dresses.  Probably too fancy for the weekend I just had.  After we took photos at the Swan House we drove a few blocks towards Buckhead and got things for closet and baking organization and then went to the grocery store.  After that we went running.  I’ve been trying to run more.  Drew’s trying to get me to run a half-marathon with him, which I don’t think I could do at all.  But then I’m sort of tempted because supposedly you run it at F.D.R. State Park, where F.D.R. had picnics?? But then I think I’m too light-footed. (PS–the last time I brought up running some of you asked what I wear. Nothing fancy! Mostly Target sale rack running things and very sensible shoes).

The rest of our weekend was pretty lazy and restful, doing the traditional back-in-Atlanta kinds of things, like eating at La Fonda, drinking lots of coffee, visiting the dance club mall. We joked about how we never buy anything, but then I came out with two things, thanks to the amazing sales going on right now. I got an Urban Outfitters dress and an army-ish Fall jacket from Madewell, so now I’m hoping that the rainy skies this week will bring a bit of cool weather.

What a house. I’ve always thought the only thing coppola got right in the gatsby movie was the party setting and clothes. I wonder what kind of people lived there…
