I’m finally back from California and I’m finally posting about it. Honestly I planned to write about things as they happened, but when I was away, blogging and fashion and keeping up with the blog world were the last things on my mind, and I’m kind of glad I took a break, because it made coming back to Atlanta and regular internet access and all the blog posts I missed out on extra fun, and now I’m ready to get back into things.
Starting out with vacation blog posting. The first place we went to on our trip to California was Napa Valley, which honestly was a place I wasn’t expecting much out of. I heard it was beautiful, but then I heard it was a lazy place for drinking wine and eating fancy food, and I don’t love wine (I’m still learning) and I’m not too fancy. But when we met up with Josie and her boyfriend Josh a few months back they talked up Napa so much that we had to visit, and I’m glad we did because it’s a gorgeous place. And lazy, but in the best way possible–we stayed in a little tiny gnome-sized cottage that had cruiser bikes we could ride around on, passed vineyards we arrived too late to visit (most close by 5 PM supposedly?) and mountains that are just covered with this green-gold haze that made us want to take a thousand tourist photos.
We had a quiet picnic, and the next day we ran through Calistoga (I planned on running in every town we stayed in, but I sort of got lazy and gave up after we left Napa) and then took off to have breakfast at Bouchon Bakery in Yountville. Francesca suggested it to me and said it was one of her favorite places to eat in California, and I can see why. I had a banana nut muffin that was miles better than any other banana muffin I’ve had, and now that I’m home I just want to recreate it.
Then we wandered around the town a bit (it was quiet and clean and flower-filled and not-too-hot at all) and left for San Francisco. But I’ll write about that one later.

You came to Napa and didn’t visit me!?!? I’m studying at the CIA!!! How I wish I could have ran into you. Oh well, I can only forgive you on account of the lovely photos and adorable clothes. Isn’t Thomas Keller-ville the funniest place? Bouchon is wonderful too, I have some friends staging there. I love their macarons. . .
For some reason I always thought you lived on the east coast–i’m sorry!! I was so deadbeat about meeting up with people on this trip, but meeting up with you would have been a blast, ugh. Next time! (SF?)
Oh don’t worry, dear! I just felt like givin’ you a hard time. I’m just glad you got to experience one of my California homes (the other being San Luis Obispo, I wonder if you went there too?) Anyways, I am SO excited to see the rest of your travels around this wonderful state! I think I am most excited for your SF post, and if you went to LA, since it’s so different. Aaaaanyways, stay lovely!
Whoa, I did go to San Luis Obispo, and the Madonna Inn! It’s insane. LA too!!!
I do love mountain-y terrain!
I think wine must be an acquired taste, which I certainly haven’t acquired yet
Can’t wait to see the SF travels
Yeah, I don’t hate wine like I used to, but it takes a while . . . I still don’t like beer and doubt I ever will!
What stunning photos! It’s always such a pleasure to visit your blog.
Thank you, that means a lot!
It is like a dream! Go by bicycle, have a dress on, feel the sun on the skin and look at the nature around. Very pretty!
.
It was sort of weirdly beautiful . . . almost too beautiful, like we were in a movie!
Your sweater is adorable!
Great dress!
I always envy you for traveling around so much! (and for your killer style!)
i love your dress and your boots! glad to hear you had a lovely time, and i can’t wait to see the rest of your photos (: xo
Napa looks beautiful. It looks quiet and serene. And y’all look like you had fun.
It looks like a beautiful trip. One of my favourite things about blogs is experiencing other people’s holidays through them!
Mine too!
wonderful pictures
The house on the picture is just like my dream house !
I love Napa, it looks like you had an amazing time!
Sounds like a dream vacation! By the way, is that i new bustier dress? I like. Did you buy it in California?
PS: You would like Ontario. Well, northern Ontario. There’s lakes everywhere and it’s cozy. My dad lives up there, but I actually live in a vastly growing suburb right outside Toronto. I’m a city person, but I’m starting to appreciate the homey-ness of the countryside. Haha, sorry, Canada’s population is small, so I like to advertise the beauty of it whenever I can to have more people see it!
Yes, a bustier dress! It’s from Modcloth and I got it because it sort of sort of reminded me of the ones Lover made!
Also Ontario sounds gorgeous. I went to Prince Edward Island when I was young and for the longest time was determined to live in Canada . . . sparsely populated places sound pretty ideal.
Love the pictures and love the cloth
I wish i could get dresses like that in this side of the world…..!!!
I’m so glad you made it, and you liked it! Those photos are making me rather sad and nostalgic, I want to go back and ride bikes through vineyards again, so much fun! It’s great you guys had a good holiday, a well deserved break
Aww, but you’re in magical Australia! Too bad we couldn’t trade.
Lovely post! I adore Napa Valley – sooooo jealous!!
u look fantastic, so was drew! :)
I just came back from jersey, it was a wonderful trip too!
I really like that modcloth dress, Rhiannon. I never thought that was your type but you look very pretty in it. I like the bustier cut!
Looks like you and Drew had fun biking! Getting a bike this week and I am getting so excited for it
Bea from A plus B
Thanks Bea! Yeah, I love the way bustier dresses look, but not so much on me.
i just went wine tasting myself! napa is dreamy, i took lots of photos, and though i’m not a big wine girl, i was so enchanted with the intimacy with which wine is produced… cant wait to see where you stopped here in SF!
xo s
It’s really magical and relaxing! Though I still don’t get how wineries are open at 10 am and how people start drinking so early. That sounds more headache inducing than relaxing!
Oh shucks, that picture of you on the bike is just about the cutest thing ever. I can’t wait to see and hear about the other places you visited (and a secret meet up that I mighhhtt know about haha)!
Aww! You heard about the secret meetup! Well the post is up now so I guess it’s not so secret
I love your vacation photos, they all have a dreamy/quiet quality to them, looks like you had lots of fun in Napa! Sadly I never made it out there, only took a 5-day trip to San Francisco and we didn’t make it out of the city. I’m interested to see your SF posts.
San Francisco deserves a good 5 days!
looks like u guys had so much fun. nice dress btw
I loved reading this post!
I’ve had some friends that have visited Napa and come back with tales of how gorgeous it is (plus there are lots of good places to eat–always a prerequisite for a good trip, imho. I’d love to visit it one day! Can’t wait for more California posts!

Casey, I bet you’d love it! My parents always talked it up too and I never really got it, but it’s just beautiful. It doesn’t really feel like you’re in the States when you’re there.
it’s good you took a true vacation and didnt worry about your blog! it looks like you had a dreamy time in napa .. a place i will always associate with the second parent trap, hahaha!
Whoa, Lindsay Lohan???? When we were in LA we kept trying to spot her. Drew thinks he saw her but I’m not so sure!
You blog is very sweet and inspiring. Love the aesthetics and how much fun it looks you are having wearing your clothes and living life. Thanks for sharing! (from à près de los angeles).
A perfect summer trip… The wineries are so similar in France! I didn’t know California could look like my home!
Thanks so much everyone!!
Hi! found you from ModCloth! Napa is my hometown, and fortunately for me my parents will live there forever. i moved to san francisco 3 weeks ago (after other california jaunts, a la santa barbara and sacramento), so you can imagine how much i loved finding these posts. napa will have its harvest soon, which is another time to be there- the smell of fermenting grapes is heavenly. and all the gold, red, and yellow vineyard leaves. ah, you’ve given me my next blog post
