Whenever tba comes out with a new collection I always find myself adding just about everything in it to my wishlist, and their autumn/winter collection is no exception. I’m in love with the little white dresses and the navy princess coats, and I just know that the line will probably be a big influence on my winter wardrobe this year.  So I thought that tba designer and founder Binbin McNiven would be the perfect interviewee to kick off the fall (well, almost fall) season . . .

1. Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I live in Brighton in the UK. I just had a new born baby and only started TBA a year ago and so my time is pretty much spent working and any spare time I spend playing with my little girl.

2. How did you get your start in the fashion industry? Did you always have plans to become a designer or did it just kind of happen?

I studied fashion at Brighton University and graduated in 2006. and after that go on working as intern at beginning and then one thing went to another. It has happened quite quickly.

3. What is your favorite thing about living in Brighton?

Being able to see the sea when you wake up.

4. Any favorite fashion films or books or magazines?

A magazine called Under the Influence.

5. When you design do you have a specific girl or muse in mind? Who would you especially love to see wearing TBA?

Girlfriends of the Rolling Stones and Chloe Sevigny. People don’t following trends and wear clothes that fit in with their personality and say something about them.

6. I’m in love with your new collection for Autumn. Can you tell us some of the inspirations behind it?

Edwardian tea party cross over with Marie I and Marie II

7. Finally, what are you excited about wearing next season?

To be honest I wear mainly vintage mixed with my own label. The gold leather colouttes in my AW10, actually i’ve been wearing them quite a lot already.

The coat and the printed dress are probably my favourites here. The gold shorts look such fun to play around with, styling wise.

  5. Good interview. That collection is pretty amazing. Love the styling of her girls too.

  6. Alicia says:

Marie I and Marie II… is she referencing the girls from Daisies? If so, it’s no wonder I’m loving these clothes so much!

  7. Saoirse says:

    beautiful collection!

  8. Taylor says:

the blouse in the first photo is beautiful

  9. I love these silhouettes! As a girl with a curvier figure (not plus size or anything, just a regular pear shape), I can’t wear long skirts or fabrics like chiffon. I find the feminine and classic stuff more beautiful anyway. And that last dress is seriously making me consider Peter Pan collars!

PS: Peter Pan never wore those collars. WTF.

  10. Anthe says:

Love the interview. I love the white dress and white skirt especially
Looks like something I would have worn many many years ago!

  11. Great stuff especially considering she’s only been doing it for a year! Not exactly chatty, though, is she. ; )

  12. Oh wow! The photos are gorgeous, the skirts – amazing. And I’m so jealous that she can see the ocean from her house! Whoa. And I can’t believe she’s done all this with a newborn, that’s crazy!

  13. Rebecca says:

i never knew she came from brighton! i went there a couple of weeks ago (: great interview. xo

  14. Anniina says:

Oh, I’m so glad you interviewed her! So interesting. I really love TBA, but, alas, I don’t (yet, I’d like to think) own any of her clothes..

It’s always so interesting to hear about the inspiration behind a collection. Will you frequently post interviews from now on or is this a one-time deal?

Hmm, besides the clothes of course, I also adore the doll-like styling of the lookbook.

  16. Colleen says:

This collection is really pretty. I could see myself wearing it, except for the price! I’ve always wanted to live in Brighton

  17. Sara Bley says:

How do you get your pictures to look that old?
