Photos stolen from Ashley (blurry photos taken by me)

We spent two days in Dublin; on Wednesday, our first day, we were so jeg-lag tired that the day’s kind of a blur to me.  But by the next day we were all feeling much better and could do even more walking all over town.  We started off with breakfast at this wonderful little place that Ashley found.  It’s called Queen of Tarts, and it was tiny and cute and had American music from the ’30s and ’40s playing over the speakers.  They also had one of the best scones I’ve ever seen, but I got yogurt, fruit, and granola instead.

Then we walked all over, looking at old churches mostly.  One of them had a crypt underneath with mummified bodies, another was big and grand and medieval, but by that point I was too tired to take a tour.  So we did a bit more walking, found ourselves in Temple Bar again, walked over to Trinity College, where I wish I could have taken pictures.  A bunch of you recommended their old library to me and I can see why.  I spent so much time leaning over the ropes trying to read the names on the spines of the old, old books, and then trying to imagine college students studying there in the 1700s, climbing up the ladders, dressed funny and fancy.  I liked that room a lot better than the book of Kells, which is so old that I just can’t get my head around it.

We followed that trip with a trip to Urban Outfitters.  Accidental shopping was one of the themes of our trip.  At first I thought it would be silly to go to Dublin and go to Urban Outfitters, but then I remembered how much better the U.K. online store is than ours in the US, so I had to go, if only to look.  And that’s all I did.  Because the stuff I really really liked was too expensive for me.  I got in trouble for taking photos of T.B.A. dresses, but I couldn’t help it–they were gorgeous and I’d never seen any in person before.  That velvet navy one is so pretty that I have a feeling I’ll be stalking it online ’till it goes on sale.

That was all the shopping we did that day.  My dad didn’t have to work, so I think he was glad that he missed out on the Topshop/Zara/H&M shopping day on Wednesday.  We spent Thursday doing tourist things in Dublin . . . walking over bridges, walking by pubs (but not going in–I promised Drew I’d drink a Guinness, but I never did because I kind of hate beer), eating a lot, taking photos.  Not wearing coats because it was so beautiful and warm–probably about as warm as Atlanta is right now.  Over the next couple of days we got proper cloudy Irish days, but they were still pretty amazing.  More posts to come!

  2. Kellie says:

Is that an Alexa Chung Madewell dress I see? So pretty! And everything about your trip sounds amazing, especially the old library! I’m pretty sure that if I went in there, I’d never want to leave!

  12. emma says:

Ah! I can’t believe you went to Queen of Tarts! They do the best food! I’m loving seeing my neighbourhood in your photos. I can see my favourite Spar shop in the background of the first photo (we call it lovely spar-I don’t know why, it’s actually not that lovely) and Christchurch in the background of the second! Looks like you’re having fun exploring the city!

    • Rhiannon says:

Aww, what an amazing place to live in! That little queen of tarts place was so good . . . we walked and walked to get to it but it was worth it!

  13. Rebecca says:

dublin’s one of the places i’ve always wanted to go to. my friend’s currently on her gap year there, so i might be able to get a trip in by visiting her! your stop offs look amazing (: xo

  14. I really don’t understand why shops get snooty about taking photos. It isn’t as though you are going to copy the dresses! And it makes me feel uncomfortable and not want to buy anything. Glad you’ve had a great time in Dublin, we do make excellent scones over here in the UK :)

    • Rhiannon says:

Yeah, I don’t get it either! I never get people who like to enforce silly rules that don’t make much sense. And it definitely scared me away from a dress I wanted to try on and now sort of regret passing up (though I didn’t really need a dress)

    • suzanne says:

..except Dublin isn’t in the UK.

Queen of Tarts is lovely though!

      • Rhiannon says:

        Suzanne, wow, you’re right. I never knew that . . .oops :)

        • suzanne says:

No worries, even the UK papers mess it up! You do have to watch about stepping on toes over here sometimes though.. I guess it’s a bit like thinking Lithuania is still part of the Soviet Union or something? Glad you had a good time over here. Your photos definitely show Ireland in a good light – it’s making me look at Galway differently, as it’d seem to someone seeing it for the first time. It’s so easy to get bored of the place you live!

  15. those TBA dresses are aaamaazing totally appreciate your efforts to get told off in taking pictures! plus loving your cute black madewell styled dress in your first pic- super cute! cant wait for more posts to come <3

  17. ah, Ireland. . .the most beautiful country

  18. Pamela says:

If you do have a drink you could ask for a baby guinness it’s not really guinness it’s a shot. But looks like a tiny guinness and is chocolatey. You can take a photo and tell Drew you just got a tiny one.

    • Rhiannon says:

aww I wish I would have known! Ashley read about getting a Guiness with currant in it . . . I might have tried that but I just haven’t been much of a drinker lately.

  19. Rachel says:

Glad to read your having such a good time over here. I hope you got a chance to visit all the museums in Dublin and definitely visit grafton street. Also if you have time you might want to take a visit to NewGrange in Co. Meath its not that far from Dublin and if your anyway interested in the history and culture of Ireland its worth the visit. Also if you get the 67a bus out to Celbridge ( my hometown) we have a beautiful historic building called Castletown house which is surrounded by lovely grounds, has a cute little cafe/restaurant attached and also has some of the most amazing rooms and incredibe stpries on the tour only about 20 mins outside Dublin. Of course my list could be endless but seeing as your not staying for a year!! You look very stylish as always and hope you enjoy your stay! x

    • Rhiannon says:

Rachel, thanks for all those tips! Aww, I wish we were staying there longer . . . there’s so much there to see. We just did a whirlwind trip, but if I ever go back I do want to get to more history museums for sure.

  20. these pictures are so romantic looking! I love the lighting – mom and dad look super cool. I’m glad you loved the library, that place left such a huge impression on me. I can’t think of a more inspirational place to write a creepy novel!

you look so elegant and cute at the same time in your dress! hope you guys are safe and having a fantastic time :)

  21. Wow, the photos are breathtaking !

  22. Stefanie says:

oh my goodness, that little brown dress with the ruffles across the top is adoooorrable!
and love the shot of the church – churches have always been eerily beautiful to me.

  23. Anthea says:

How beautiful! Love the last picture.

  24. Casey says:

Oh wow! I can’t imagine how neat it must be to walk around places that are so old. My American brain (where “old” is 300 years young) can’t wrap around that. ;) rofl.

I love the dress in the first few pictures! Joy does a lookalike if anyone’s interested but is too much of a poor student to buy the Alexa Chung dress, thought I’d pass on the tip. I haven’t got one but I just bought a vintage fur that I think will look amazing with it so might have to pick one up…here’s the link: https://www.joythestore.com/Louche-Lottie-Pearl-Collar-Velvet-Dress.html

  26. Hannah says:
