Cropped sweater: Rainy Days Beaded Sweater, c/o Lulus
Skirt: thrift store
Sheer tights: Target
Ankle boots: Madewell

This Christmas the south got a freak snow storm, and all day long we kept looking out the windows to see if the snow flurries were adding up to anything.  Atlanta got its first white Christmas since the 1880s, but where we were on the North Carolina coast it didn’t really snow until the next day when we were driving home.  I don’t like snow, but even I had to admit it was beautiful.  It was funny to see ice covered palm trees and all the sombreros at South of the Border glistening under snow.

I planned on taking photos of my Christmas outfit when we got back to Atlanta so I could get some snow and a halfway Christmas-y backdrop, but by the time we pulled in to town most of the snow was gone.  Which was fine with me.  It meant I could go running the next day and go on errands and to thrift stores without dealing with ice on the roads.  It also meant I wouldn’t have very festive Christmas outfit photos, but that’s ok; I think last year’s outfit post with my sisters is hard to beat anyway.

Did you all have a good holiday weekend?  Mine was really relaxing and fun.  We slept in Christmas morning, which is the best way to spend Christmas morning.  Then we ate pancakes, opened presents, and visited Drew’s grandma who is from New Zealand and has the best accent and NZ sayings.  Then we had a great big, wonderful Christmas dinner and spent the rest of the evening relaxing.  I think I spent hours on Forgotten NY, reading about old stoplights and what happened to the old mailboxes of New York and Coney Island bungalows and random colonial graveyards.  That site’s the best for procrastinating on.  Sometimes when I can’t sleep I get up and start going through F.N. pages and then all of a sudden it’s 5 a.m. and I don’t know what happened.

I like this. Its simple and pretty, and the sweater looks so cozy. I will have to check out Forgotten NY, it sounds so magical! I wish someone would do that for my neck of the woods (Portland, OR) I think there is less history, but it must be so interesting, with the trappers and the claim-stakers and the pioneers, the railways and the shipyards. There is a pioneer cemetery up the road from my house, and it is so fascinating. Anyway, I babble. Its nice to read about someone else who digs history and fashion.

Rose, no, that does sound fascinating . . . I really really want to see Portland, though mostly for newer things. I never thought about there being settler cemeteries.

Also, you should start a history/then and now type site on Portland! We have one here (Atlanta Time Machine) and it’s so interesting, even if we don’t seem to have as much history standing as New York.

What a lovely sweater (: And I agree about snow, it’s pretty to look at, but I’m always glad when it’s gone! It’s scary to drive on… xo

  7. Oh this is too sweet Rhiannon! Even the lighting is perfect for your colors. Amazing picture, well done Drew ;)

Oh Rhiannon. Love this. That skirt is so flouncy and I love the shruggy casualness of that adorable sweater paired with it!

  11. Lexie says:

I like your beaded sweater! And the flounce in that skirt is perfect for the holidays!

  12. Oh so lucky to be able to wear an adorable skirt! Even in Central California it is far too cold to wear a skirt, unless one just endured the cold or only went shopping in heated stores!

You may fancy the store called Crossroads Trading Co. Since I do not travel outside California, I am not sure if it is a nationwide chain, but its an outlet store that offers designer and used clothes for a very affordable price. I found a red satin betsey johnson dress for $11! (prices are higher in the San Francisco Crossroads, of course!)Happy Holidays!

  15. I love the elegant simplicity of your outfit. Well done as always!

I absolutely adore your style! I have a question… well, two, actually. How in the world do you not snag your tights when you put them on? And how did you learn all that you know on vintage styles/clothing?

  17. Oh I have been back to this post far too many times since you did it. The photos are just so lovely.
I love what you wore too nice and relaxed and still very pretty.
I love it when you mention New Zealand. I can never believe when people say they like our accents, because to me I think we always sound a bit like a mannish monotone (slightly rough sounding too).

Growing up I guess we always saw Americans on T.V so it makes sense that we can hear what we sound like! She sounds lovely though and I agreethe sayings are very funny! The kids at camp 75 percent of the time had no idea what I was going on about.

p.s Your hair grows insanely fast, do you have some sort of amazing hair secret you are hiding from all of us? Mine used to grow like nobodies business, but now snaps off!
