Ooh I love these! Such great inspiration in each one. Haha, but I agree about the actress in photo 4.

  2. Sarah says:

I adore that fifth dress! Such delicate scallops!

  3. hannah says:

I’m loving the scalloped one! I remember seeing one very similar to it in Patterns for Fashion pt2 by Janet Arnold. That book has some of the best 1920s-1930s dresses ever!

  4. Jill says:

Swooooooon!!! Just my favourite kind of ethereal perfection! Those shoes are droolworthy, too!

  5. Marisa says:

These images are beautiful. Love the 2nd and 3rd down. The embellished dress is just stunning and the hair style
in the 2nd pic down is gorgeous. Kinda makes me want short hair again!

I LOVE Jobyna Ralston, if that’s her. It’s kind of hard to tell, but it does look like her. She is so likeable and charming; her chemistry with Harold Lloyd was great. I also like Lillian Gish. :)

    • Rhiannon says:

I love those two too! Jobyna Ralston has silent film dream hair . . . one of these days I’m going to go to her hometown in Tennessee and do a blog post on it. I pass it every time I go visit my parents, but haven’t been yet.

These are beautiful Rhiannon!! i always get all giddy when u share things about the silent era or old tcm movies! And Marion Davies looks as adorable as always in that picture. This is so fitting for spring, someone needs to hurry up and make a collection of pretty little day dresses like this! The fifth and sixth ones are my favorites.

    • Rhiannon says:

Keila, that kind of collection would be amazing! I love the really simple cotton dresses from the ’20s . . . maybe we should gather up a bunch of photos of them and hand them off to a seamstress to make them. :)

      • Keila says:

That would be amazing! I was thinking of tracking down some 1920s patterns on ebay and giving it a shot myself. We shall see though i have the worst sewing skills.

love, love, love! early 1900s goodness:) I

  9. Jess says:

Oh my goodness – what gorgeous ladies! Weirdly, I do know what you mean about the Ebay lady – she reminds me of those mean, sneaky girls at school, whom I’m sure we have all known :( AmAZING shoes though! Where can I find me some o’ them? Thanks for posting ~ Jess

    • Rhiannon says:

Yes! Or she reminds me of one of the more annoying chorus girls in Busby Berkely movies. Toby Wing-dumb dora characters or something (ugh).

I’m sure you can find ’20s shoes on Etsy but I wonder if Anthropologie has similar ones? They usually have vintage inspired ones.

  10. What ever happened to your white Pins & Needles sundress? I love it; I have the same one in blue, but it has an oil stain on it that will probably never come out! :(

    • Rhiannon says:

Ha ha . . . I don’t feel so bad then because I think I messed up my Pins and Needles dress too. Coffee or something which is sad because I really loved that dress! I wonder if UO will come out with a similar version this year?

      • Honestly, if they don’t, I am will attempt to make a new one! Sadly, sundresses don’t seem to be in fashion this year, so they will be harder to find. Sigh.

        • Rhiannon says:

You should!! I sort of want to try to make some sun dresses like the new Steven Alan ones . . . they’re simple and they don’t seem too hard.

Isn’t it funny how difficult it can be to find a really simple summer dress under $200? I need to learn how to sew decently.

I love the 4th one. sooo cute! Kinda reminds me of sound of music (?)

  12. Casey says:

Ack! These are gorgeous images… I am adding them all to my inspiration folder. ;)

I love these photos. Now I’m dreaming of walking along a country road in late spring, floaty cream-colored sun dress like feathers against my skin, & flowers in my hair… (I think my imagination just drifted into a Lillian Gish movie still as photographed by David Hamilton. :) )

  14. Silvia says:

The fourth annoying actress has a dress I must have. If only it were still alive.

These are so beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing this!
