If I’ve been writing about spring I might as well write about summer, right? Maybe not.  Around here summer is the dreaded season that winter is up north.  The temperatures get unbearable and the season drags out so long that you get depressed by the end of it. But weirdly enough these photos are making me want to be some place warm. I wouldn’t even mind having to wear a bathing suit, as long as they are as cute as these ones by Geronimo. And bathing suits scare me.  I’m the shyest person in the world when it comes to going out in public in one.  But all of these are so pretty and old-fashioned; the cover-ups especially are 1960s pretty and modest and would make an awkward walk across the beach a little less awkward.

You know what I also like?  Soft focus, dreamy lighting, straw hats, silent film-looking houses, and Annie Monroe.

Oh I love these, Annie looks so wonderful and dreamlike, and the clothes are perfection, especially the little white dress. Thanks for sharing Rhiannon. Sally x

These are so gorgeous! Some of them are so pretty, they don’t even look like bathing suits.

  4. Maria says:

I would live in bathing suits like these. Annie looks divine as always!

These pictures are awesome. The one with the polka dot bathing suit is great with those greens in the background.

  6. Gosh, Annie Monroe is just amazing in these pictures!
I love these retro bathing suits, I am extremely shy too and if I have to do the “awkward walk across the beach” I always make sure to have my shorts on ;) Last summer I got one of those cute polka dots swimsuits they have on modcloth and then I realized: oh! Why did people stop wearing old school bathing suits? They’re so comfortable you could just live in them all summer :)
I must check this collection, thank you for sharing it Rhiannon!

Yeah, the walk across the beach is awful! I still need to get some pretty type cover up. I think I might look into the little white dress thing from Geronimo.

I have a polka dot ’50s-ish bathing suit that I love too! Aren’t they the greatest?

I once made the mistake of trying to buy a bathing suit in a beach town. I asked the guy working in the store if he had any one pieces, to which he snorted “what, like they wore in the 40s?”. I pretended not to hear his nastiness and said “that would be perfect” to which he looked me up and down and said “you would really look better in a bikini”.
Some people just don’t understand that wanting a one piece isn’t always because you have poor body image, some girls just prefer to be a little more modest! I have a pretty good vintage styled suit right now, but this collection is tempting me to get a new one1

    • Rhiannon says:

You should get that guy for harrassment. I’d be so mad!

Yeah it’s funny how a lot of people don’t “get” modest suits. I just think they look prettiest.

  8. I know what you mean about being self-conscious in bathing suits! I have slight scoliosis so I look a little crooked :P

    • Rhiannon says:

Me too! I have a scoliosis surgery scar all the way down my back and I used to be so nervous abut wearing bathing suits. And my waist is crooked so I just look funny. :)

Oh dear, it’s like torture, it’s supposed to snow again this weekend! :) xx

I remember I once saw a silent film, or maybe it was an early talkie about a man from China and murder. I hardly remember because I was high and sleepy, but I remember it had a very stylish set. Does my description ring any bells? I want to download and watch that movie again.

    • Rhiannon says:

Oh man . . . the only thing I can think of is Shanghai Express with Marlene Dietrich and Anna May Wong. It’s an early talkie, and most of it takes place on a train. I can’t remember if the set is stylish or Marlene and Anna May Wong just make it look stylish.

I am the same way about bathing suits, so much so that I’ve never owned or worn a two-piece in my life. However, I’m thinking of being bold and trying it out this year — especially if I can find a vintage-inspired one!

    They are so pretty!

I’m also a ‘shy-bunny’ when it comes to taking a swim, especially at a beach … it can feel like such a long way from one’s towel to the ocean …

I may just have to reconsider those thoughts based on these beauties though.
    :)

oh oh oh so so pretty!

  15. Casey says:

So, so cute! I love how romantic everything looks. *sigh* Almost makes me less shy about the idea of wearing a swimsuit too!

I also love how you characterized the southern summers like the way the winter is in the north. So true! Part of me is looking forward to summer, and part of me is dreading it because it goes on forever (or so it seems ;) ! lol.

    • Rhiannon says:

Casey, ha ha, I feel the same way about it. I’m excited about spring, but it seems like it turns to summer so quickly, and then it goes on and on. I’d much rather take a southern winter!

I love these photos! I have a bathing suit just like the one in the third picture down.

And I read some of the comments above, and guys especially don’t get the wearing a one-piece thing. A lot of them assume women dress for them, but at least for me, I dress for myself!

  18. Loli says:

    amazing!
    perfect clothes and perfect model!
    she is a beautiful “Lolita”… ;)

  19. Jess says:

Oh so dreamy! That second image is so gorgeous – the soft lighting and polkadot bathing costume, brunette bob and naughty cigarette. There’s something Lolita about it. Gorgeous! ~ Jess

  20. Alyssa says:

You girls just made my day after reading your comments about scoliosis and bathing suits. I too have a slight curve and it has always made me dread wearing bathing suits. I always feel like I can never find a style that doesn’t highlight my crookedness. Thanks for showing me I’m not the only one!

This designer makes horrible quality clothes… like I mean CHEAP quality especially for the price I bought a dress from her for $240 and it fell apart the second i put it on, I had t sew it to be able to wear it. The material was cheaper than a forever 21 dress… BAD BAD BAD… :( really a bummer
