Sweater: S/S Crenelle Sweater by Hetterson
Skirt and bag: thrift stores
Shoes: Madewell
Whenever Hetterson releases a lookbook I always find myself wanting to dress in cropped sweaters and scallops, so when its creator Hannah Elise asked me to be the next person in their How To Wear series I jumped at the chance. Hannah’s been sending her pretty little spring-colored Crenelle sweater around to different bloggers to wear and pass on, and a few days ago it arrived in Atlanta.
We took these photos yesterday on our way to the farmers’ market. This weekend was quiet and good. Drew and I were both a little under the weather so we just rested a lot. On Saturday I went thrift store-shopping with some friends and then worked on some shoot stuff with Jamie and her friend Mandy (there was a strange, fancy-ish party at our studio that we accidentally crashed), and at night I didn’t feel well so I went to bed and read. Not especially exciting. But today we’re supposed to be getting big spring storms and maybe a tornado, so I have a feeling it will give us enough excitement for the week. (I’ll probably be sitting in the house trying to work, hiding on the couch with Rufus)
To see the rest of the bloggers in Hetterson’s How To Wear series click here! There are some pretty great ones in there. Today I’m sending it off to another favorite blogger, followed by another favorite–can’t wait to see how they style it!

I haven’t been doing too much unnecessary buying this year, so whenever a little package comes to me in the mail or I get something that isn’t a bill it pretty much brightens up my day.
1., 2., and 3.: My friend Mona from Florida sent me the prettiest Valentine’s gift yet–a little box full of treasures, like vintage photos (so pretty I had to scan them and put them on my Flickr page), an old valentine, a little tin of Sweet Georgia Brown pomade, and because she’s too nice to me, three beautiful bottles of Chanel nail polish. I haven’t painted my nails yet because I can’t decide which one to pick first
4: I actually got this little bustier from the New Zealand designer Juliette Hogan last year but haven’t been brave enough to wear it. I’m going to try to wear it this spring, though. I had our model wear it at Monday’s shoot and she looked cuter than I ever could in it. Today Jamie showed me some of the film photos that came back, and in the prettiest photo of all Stephanie is wearing the Juliette Hogan top and high waisted shorts and I can’t wait to show you.
5: A strange (but good) Urban Outfitters spring preview book with Harmony Korine photos/drawings. When Drew asked me how I liked it I said, “I can’t even see the clothes,” and he teased me for being grumpy. But I do like one picture with a white dress. The other book isn’t a surprise or gift . . . I bought it. It was too good not to. I’m completely late to the game and just discovered all the wonderful-but-confusing Japanese clothing pattern books out there. If the dresses in this book don’t convince me to work on my sewing I don’t think anything will.

Saturday was cool and cloudy and perfect for doing indoor things, so Drew and my parents and I went to the tiny little town of Bell Buckle, Tennessee for some antique store shopping/exploring. As much as I love visiting Nashville, I think I might like going to the small country towns more; Bell Buckle is exactly the sort of thing I picture when I think of Tennessee towns. It’s a tiny train town with a general store, lots of antique stores, an ice cream store, and even a little restaurant that broadcasts live country music over the radio. The general store was definitely the best thing we saw, though. The owner told us all about how he bought the place in the 1970s and how it came with lots of original stock, like the ’30s dresses and hats he had hanging on the walls. He told us about how back in the day the town did pretty well and even had a big hotel across from the main square, but that like a lot of small train towns it pretty much quit growing during the Depression. These days the place is filled with antique stores. The old hotel looks like it was converted into apartments, but it’s still there.
Also there: Moon Pies! Lots and lots of them, in every flavor you could imagine. Apparently there’s a Moon Pie festival in Bell Buckle every year, and if I didn’t eat way too much sugar that weekend already I would have bought one.

A few quick, behind-the-scenes shots of our photoshoot yesterday. It was a lot of fun. In the morning Jamie, Stephanie, and I went to the studio to make sure the outfits worked, and then drove out to the funny town of Conyers. Well, it’s not funny. It has a pretty great thrift store and good old roadside buildings, like the 1960s motel we shot at that was pretty amazing.
Stephanie was adorable and fun and wore summery outfits (and crazy shoes) on a February day like a trooper, and Jamie shot on film, and so I think the pictures will be extra good. We’ll show you when it’s finished!

I love Tennessee so much I want to move there sometimes. It’s pretty and it’s fun and there are always a hundred things to do, and whenever I go visit my parents and my mom asks what I’d like to see I get overwhelmed and don’t have an answer. That’s ok. We did go somewhere fun Saturday (I’ll show you those pictures soon), but mostly we rested and ate wonderful food, including my dad’s famous chocolate chip cookies, my mom’s famous cinnamon rolls, salmon dinner, and homemade scones and clotted cream for breakfast. Also I ate so much chocolate that I got a stomach ache, but that’s the norm for me when it comes to Tennessee visits.
Other things I did: chopped some of my hair off on Friday afternoon (I got bored), talked wedding plans a tiny bit (I’m not a fancy wedding person and would hit up the courthouse if I could, but we’re thinking of a July ceremony so have to get planning), saw Lauren and Neil, finished my book, ran on the treadmill, obsessively checked Vogue.co.uk for London shows (Charles Anastase!), teased Rufus, and joked around a lot with my family.
