My favorite colors to wear so far this spring have been blue and white, so I’m especially in love with Finnish label Ivana Helsinki’s S/S collection. Well not all of it’s blue and white–it’s sailor-themed, and there’s a good bit of red in it, but all of it makes me think of the ocean, and the dresses in it make me imagine cool walks by the docks.

1st photo: shot by Samantha Casolari for Dossier Journal. 1 and 2 are from The Moon & Mars.

Number one inspirations for summertime (or anytime). I’ve written too much about this already so I won’t ramble, but most of these photos are from silent film Ebay searches, except for that last one, which was found here.

Sunday was Drew’s birthday, and luckily the weekend was good and sunny and perfect for outside things like biking (him) and running (for me), and every night we got to be with friends and it was nice. We had lots of food–sushi on Friday night, fallafels at Star Provisions Saturday, and then that night crazy desserts and coffee at Intermezzo. Yesterday I made pumpkin french toast for breakfast and carrot cake for a birthday get-together we had later on. I had so much sugar that I probably shouldn’t have any for a while.
Yesterday I wore some things I’ve been wearing a lot lately–I’m wearing these shoes probably more than any others at the moment, and I’ve worn this Louche dress probably 5 times already since it got here a few weeks ago. If all of my dresses had these sorts of sleeves I think I would love it. I also bought this Fieldguided tote a few weeks ago and have been using it every single day. In case you haven’t noticed I sort of do that with bags–use the same one over and over again. It’s partly out of laziness but mostly because I find one bag and love it so much that I don’t want to use any others. All this spring I’ve been carrying that ’90s straw bag, so I needed to get another summer bag to shake things up.
Also . . . here’s my haircut. On Tuesday I got my haircut by a professional for the first time in ten years and was absolutely nervous, but I shouldn’t have been. My bangs are still new-haircut short (don’t laugh), but they’ll grow out, and the rest of my hair is ten times better than it was before. Not so puffy, and my hairstylist even magically got rid of all the weird layers I’d cut myself. I don’t know why I didn’t go sooner.

When I saw the teaser images for Twenty-Seven Names’ new collection I knew it was going to be good and kept checking the brand’s facebook page for updates. Fortunately Katherine is Awesome just posted the Still Waters Run Deep lookbook and it is every bit as good as I hoped. In a lot of ways it’s classic Twenty-Seven Names with its white dresses, ’90s-esque prints, and crochet bits. It’s perfect spring inspiration. I like how some of it reminds me of ’90s moms (mostly the linen dresses and long skirts) and some if it reminds me of polygamists (loose, long cotton dresses!), but in the best way possible.
To see the rest of the collection be sure to check out Katherine’s sneak peek . . .

To drag out the desert theme on this blog even further here are some more photos I’ve been gathering for inspiration. Next week I have a shoot planned with Jamie, and it’s going to be (I think) vaguely desert themed–I say vaguely because we’re shooting it around Atlanta and far from any deserts. I can’t help but think how amazing it would be to shoot in a real desert, especially when I see editorials like these two. The Venetia Scott one, Desert Rose, was shot a few years ago but still looks really great and new, and I can’t get over the Marc by Marc Jacobs in its heyday-esque styling and how adorable Siri Tollerod is in desert snowbird settings. And White Mischief is my favorite Tim Walker editorial in a long time. I don’t love all of it (some of it gets too close to white woman among the natives territory) but there are parts of it that are more beautiful than anything I’ve seen recently. The inspiration for it is interesting (reckless British aristocrats in Kenya in the ’30s and ’40s), and the white dresses are especially magical with the desert as a backdrop.
