It seems like there’s a heatwave all over the country, but here in Atlanta it’s pretty much just summer as usual, hot and humid, stay inside as much as you can kind of weather  . . .  I’ve been wearing sundresses every single day, including this one that I originally got to wear to Mississippi.  It’s sleeveless and cotton, and the print on it kind of reminds me of one that was floating around in New Zealand collections last season, which of course is a bonus.

I didn’t do a whole lot this weekend.  On Friday night we were social and hung out with friends, but on Saturday I was indecisive and sort of sick and the only thing that sounded fun to me was eating chocolate and going downtown to the library.  I had some overdue books to take back and fines to pay (like usual), but I can still check out books so I got a book called The Romantic Comedians, by Ellen Glasgow.  I’ve read good things about Glasgow in southern literary history books but haven’t read anything by her until now, so I figured it would be a good late summer novel to read  Also RuPaul’s autobiography was already checked out.

On Saturday night we ate tacos and then went out for drinks at Octane for the second night in a row (I had an iced Irish coffee, copying what Jamie had the night before), and today Drew finished watching the Tour de France (his favorites got 2nd and 3rd) and then we went to Bakeshop (more chocolate) and then to the farmer’s market.  Salad for dinner, reading books later on, maybe I’ll make (chocolate) muffins.  Sometimes it’s good when weekends are slow and boring because it makes the idea of work and weekdays seem exciting by comparison.  This week I want to brainstorm and work on store things and work on elbow exercises, and on Thursday I’ll even get out of town to go visit my mom in the mountains, where she’ll be going to a history conference.

Loving this post! I have a few questions/comments for you:

1). I enjoy reading but find that I tend to get out of the “reading mode”. I admire the fact that you read constantly. How is it that you do that? Do you read fast or do you skim and not necessarily read every part of the book or what?

2). Do you mostly bake or do you ever cook? I am a college student and I just feel like I need to get the whole cooking/baking thing squared away to try and save money.

3). Those sunglasses seem to go with everything! Cute :)

    • Rhiannon says:

      Anne, thank you!!!

Reading: honestly I’m super reclusive and spend a lot of time by myself, so I have plenty of reading time. I still don’t feel like I have enough time though, and I think I do skim read more than I should.

I can’t cook at all–for some reason it seems so much harder than baking. Drew loves to cook and does all of the cooking–I do easy things like chop vegetables . . . or I guess I can follow a recipe as long as it’s written out well. When I lived by myself I ate a lot of omelets and sandwiches, ha ha.

this is such a pretty dress! i have been eyeing online for a little while now and seeing i on you seals the deal for me.

normally, i’ll read on the train going to and from work, but i’ve been riding my bike so much lately that i’ve seriously cut back on books :( i have to make reading in bed a habit now!

    • Rhiannon says:

Liz, aww, reading on the train probably was so much fun. It’s cool that you can ride your bike to work though. And reading in bed is my favorite, though I never can go to bed as early as I want to, ugh.

  16. Swan says:

Though! I did read Rupaul’s autobiography. I loved it. There’s lots of useful advice in it.

    • Rhiannon says:

Oooh, that’s what I’m hoping. I wish I knew RuPaul in person . . . sometimes I like to read his old blog because he seems so wise (and he likes David Bowie).

  17. Caitlin Rose says:

love that dress on you. and You look so strong : )

    • Rhiannon says:

Thanks Caitlin, it’s crazy how much stronger my arm is feeling! Though I probably over-do it (i’m holding my bag with my bad arm in these photos, which probably isn’t the best idea . .. )

You look like a dream in that little frock. Adorable. I wish my weekends were as “boring” as yours. ALL I do these days is read (studying for exams) and I long for all the little outings you all take. So I’m having a vicariously exciting life through you. Thanks! :)

    • Rhiannon says:

Aww, well at least you’re being productive! Sometimes I just feel like my weekends are too lazy, and I’m always happier when I’m getting things done. Hopefully soon I’ll be going on a trip so I’ll have stuff to write about on the blog. : )

Curious, Is your ma a historian?

    • Rhiannon says:

She works in the tourism center in a little historic town in Tennessee and does a lot of history tours for her job. Mostly she just loves history like I do though.

  30. Rhiannon says:

    Thanks everyone!

  31. These photos are absolutely stunning. I really love the colours of that dress on you and I have to admit that I bought those Karen Walker sunnies after lusting after yours for a year and it was the bst decision I ever made. Thanks for always providing so much inspiration!

I love reading a blog by somebody who lives here too! It really is summer as usual here. As everyone else complains about this weather, we’re just used to it because it’s normal for us. It’s so so hot though. I love your little sun dress. The colors are wonderful!
