These photos were taken by Lauren Ward, a California photographer whose work always makes me think of the ’70s and of vacations and of the long, romantic dresses I’d wear in a heartbeat if I could only pull them off. I did a little post on her last year when I was inspired by all of her maxi skirt-ed models, but right now I’m really drawn to the simple (and ’70s-inspired) clothes in this editorial. Sometimes I think I just want to give up on modern fashion and magazine reading and grow my hair long (er) and wear only ’70s dresses with flutter sleeves and impractically flowing skirts. I want to dress the way Lillian Gish would dress if she happened to fall asleep sometime in 1922 and woke up to find herself in 1972. I want to live somewhere in the mountains (Rocky, Blue Ridge, doesn’t matter) and just read and listen to Bob Dylan (Nobody ‘Cept You) and Dory Previn (Lady with the Braid), which is basically what I’ve been doing these last few days.
Lately my mood has been strange (nerves!) and my head has hurt most of the time, but soon enough I’m sure things will get back to normal. In a week or two we’re going to go on a little trip out of town, and my arm will be better (maybe?), and things will be on the up and up. Then fall will come and I’ll start getting excited about clothes again.

The photos are beautiful! I know the feeling… I myself wish I couuld go back in time!
and by the way, if you like Bob Dylan like me, maybe you’ll like Tim Buckley. I’ve been listening to him lately and he’s wonderful (the first and second album especially). Hope you’re enjoying the weekend!
Those photos are amazing! The vast grass lands and everything…so beautiful!

you can’t be excited about clothes all the time. But most people aren’t excited about their jobs any of the time. So I wouldn’t worry about this little down, you’ll be up soon enough.

Just beautiful photos and I really adore that blue dress.
Sometimes I have that feeling too!
Hope you’ll have fun in your trip and your arm will get better!

those photos are prettyprettypretty. you can almost feel the wind in your hair.
I’m loving these. The top one is my favorite.
I love Dory Previn as well. I picked up her biography a few years ago. She is so fascinating. I could never look at Mia Farrow the same after hearing her song “beware of young girls”.
The house looked amazing especially with the fountains in front. Loved the rest of the photographs too.
Best wishes Sue
