1. I’ve been trying to cook dinner more lately, but since I’m not very confident about my cooking abilities I’ve been taking small steps, making things that take more baking skills than cooking.  This week I made lasagna, salmon cakes, and pizza (at least the dough part), and I’m starting to like it.  But I still like baking so much more.  With the leftover ricotta from the lasagna I made lemon ricotta muffins (not sure why the recipe calls them biscuits–they’re definitely more muffin-like) and it’s one of my favorite things I’ve made in a long time.

2.  About once every year I get the urge to start sewing again, though it never sticks.  This time around I want to make a sun dress.  Nothing complicated—I tracked down a vintage pattern that’s about as easy as you can get.  And today I went to a fabric store that Jamie took me to before and got some color dyed linen that I’m in love with, so it really has to work out.

3.  Rufus has been especially sweet lately, but also strange, and sometimes when I come home and expect to find him sleeping on the couch he’s really sleeping in the dirty clothes hamper under the bathroom sink instead.  We made a little instagram account for him, if you want to keep up with him and his weird ways.  And .  . . I finally figured out how to use Pinterest and got an account of my own.  I’ve been on it all weekend . . . how come I never knew it was so good?

I love these posts of yours. I really do.
I know I’ve said this already, but I feel like I can take a glimpse into your “ordinary” life. it’s nice!

Also, pinterest is very addicting. but really great for inspiration!!

Thanks, Eunice!! I’m glad you like those posts . . . they’re fun to do. :)

And Pinterest, yes! I check it more than my email now.

I don’t want to pretend that there’s any cause for worry (and I beg pardon for getting up in your business), but if his behaviour’s really changed maybe a vet check-up could be an idea?

I like the sound of a summer dress with that fabric.

    • Rhiannon says:

Aww, thanks for worrying! He’s ok though. He’s acting weird in the way he usually does–just funny, but nothing out of the ordinary. Though you’re right–when he gets sick he starts getting restless (he’s usually pretty lazy) and acting so different that we know something’s wrong.

Wow! Cooking, baking & sewing! You are certainly ambitious! I love the fabric you chose.
Got to love my Grand Dog Rufus for finding soft cuddly spots to hand out!

I know I agree with Claire, not to be a bossy Alice, but sometimes when they sleep in hidey places like that its because they don’t feel good. I’ve been having the urge to sew too. I got these huge bins of fabric out of my storage and found some wonderful tomato red sheer cotton that I bought 10 years ago in a Paris Saturday market and I decided to make a sundress too. I have loads of patterns from around the same time when I was sewing a lot. So I suppose they’re vintage too by now. :)

    • Rhiannon says:

Yeah, Rufus definitely goes off by himself when he’s sick. But that’s usually when we’re around–sometimes he just sleeps in the clothes basket when we’re gone because he’s too lazy to jump on the couch, I’m guessing : )

That’s so neat that you have fabric you found from a market in Paris . . . what a good memory.

Eee! Rufus! So cute! And I’m starting to think that dogs are all just kind of weird…our little Bruce is just about the weirdest being I’ve ever known, but then, I’m around him all the time!

  6. Jill says:

Mmmm, those muffins look great. Cheers to weekend domestic bliss!

I definitely understand the cooking thing. It really does take practice! You have to try different recipes, fail, try again, gets better, try again until you get the hang of it. I think you’ll find that it’s similar to baking in that there are almost always the same basic ingredients that start each meal, but I agree – baking is so much more fun!

Rufus is so dang cute! There are so many cats on Instagram, so I’m glad he’s representing the other side on there!

    • Rhiannon says:

Thanks for the cooking encouragement . . . yeah, I think you’re right. I have to keep on trying new things out. (picking out what’s for dinner is my favorite part, ha)

And glad you like Rufus’ instagram! I follow so many chihuahuas on instagram that I don’t even notice all the cats. : )

Aw, Rufus. I love the fabric you choose, too. I’m usually too scared to sew once I find a good fabric out of fear that I may ruin it. If only I had more courage/confidence with sewing.

About Pinterest–– I recently got turned on to the site too, so you can imagine my disappointment when I read an article about the legality of its services this morning (http://articles.businessinsider.com/2012-02-28/tech/31106641_1_repinning-copyright-entire-image). Apparently it’s users are responsible for getting permission to pin each photo, otherwise it’s copyright infringement and the photographer’s can sue individual users. Maybe I’m just being crazy, but that scares me a little!

    • Rhiannon says:

I have a feeling that same thing will happen to me with this fabric–it’s so pretty I don’t want to mess it up!

And I have such bad timing finally joining Pinterest . . . that’s really scary, but then again it’s not too surprising. I might still be figuring it out, but it’s weird that there aren’t spots for link throughs like there are on Tumblr, and I bet I’m breaking laws without even realizing it.

Aww Rufus looks so cute under there! That fabric looks pretty too! I always say I’m gonna learn to sew a dress but it has yet to happen!

Those muffins look delicious! So neat how you’re recycling ingredients. I have to agree with you – baking is much more enjoyable, perhaps because there is an exactness to it. Cooking just seems so daunting. And Rufus is such a cutie pie! My dog acts similarly, she’s always laying in a pile of laundry. Must be a dog thing!

Those muffins look delicious! Do you think they would be just as good without the almond extract?
