Why I’m only discovering New Zealand label Miss Crabb now is beyond me. Apparently the label has been at it for a while, turning out really simple, non-trendy silk dresses and selling them at their Auckland boutique, getting a big local following in the process.
Miss Crabb’s new collection for summer is called ‘L’amour et La Paix,’ and according to their site it’s “an ode to a fearless, intuitive approach to colour.” Now, when it comes to color I’m not quite so fearless. I’m only slowing warming up to the colors I used to avoid, which basically is anything bright. I love the shapes in this collection too, but don’t think I’d be able to pull them off half so well as the adorable (don’t you love her hair?), funny little lip-ring mouthed model. But that goldenrod dress in the last row? I think that one would look great on just about anyone.

You might also like Penny Sage (http://pennysage.com/index.html) which is stocked by Miss Crabb in Auckland. A friend of mine put me on to them, I like the mute colour palette, and the use of simple, drape-y silhouettes in really nice fabric. I feel similarly to you about the other NZ/Aus brands losing me in recent collections (think floral with leather inserts), they are just too “trendy”, whereas Miss Crabb and Penny Sage (and Juliette Hogan, whom I will love forever) I think are timeless and feminine without being overtly sexy.
Ooh, I just did a post on Pennysage a few weeks ago . . . I’m with you on NZ collections. The ones you listed are pretty much my favorites too. They all do simple, grown-up clothes that don’t get too trendy. So many NZ labels I used to really like just keep recycling one grunge-inspired collection after another. It’s weird.
love the color of the dresses!
I love the simple styling of all the collections you post. I also love your blog in general. I’m a fiction writer so I like how you cover literary things!
You haven’t noticed that the ‘funny little lip-ring mouthed model’ is called . . . . . Rhiannon.
