I’ve been kind of dreading wearing fall clothes, dreading black tights and layers as much as I used to look forward to them a few years ago. The idea of wearing clothes that are too structured or too buttoned-up makes me squirm, and I’ve never been any good at layering. And as much as I’ve always loved black tights, sometimes I worry about them looking too little girl, too Zooey Deschanel in her Alice in Wonderland dresses. No offense to Zooey; she’s adorable, but I’m in my 30s and don’t want to look adorable anymore.
So when I find a good fall collection that I can really see myself wearing I have to post about it. I posted about Morgan Carper’s spring collection and then fell in love with it even more when I saw a few of her pieces in person at Frances May. I think I would love these dresses just as much. They were inspired by Carper’s travels to Laos and Vietnam and feature custom prints based on traditional Hmong textiles, in colors that are perfectly fall without being dreary. And even those tights are looking pretty good.

I love the first dress in the second row and the tie front dress! it makes me excited to wear cutout pieces even into the fall. I love her prints.
these are nice
I feel like sheer tights make a big difference … even if they aren’t as practical!
Is mimicry the highest form of flattery? Or is making cheap prints based on age old cultural styles an insult to the actual skills the Ethnic groups use to produce the real deal insulting? This is a question I ponder a lot these days as you see more and more cheap prints based on ethnic designs everywhere. The Navajo Nation made their decision. Must all cultural groups trademark their ethnic designs to protect the integrity of them?
I think black tights (plain), grey tights, leggings etc. look fab with dresses and tunics. I’m in my 40s and I still wear they as they are comfortable, look smart in the office and work well with the British changeable weather. My friend in her 50s is also wearing this, so I think don’t worry about looking too young, it’s what you pair them with isn’t it, e.g. not a dress with horses on it and not a cute little bow on your head!
