It’s been a long time since I did a post on Drew’s artwork. In the meantime he’s been working hard in his studio, making paintings that have appeared in art shows around the world and on blogs much, much bigger than this one (hello, Design*Sponge and Design Milk). It’s been exciting to watch his work evolve. In the evenings he comes back from his studio with iPhone photos and explanations of where his work is headed, and I love getting sneak peeks of his new paintings and of his artistic process in general.
I also love hearing about the stories behind his work. This particular series, Repair, was inspired by his own experiences growing up with a home-builder father. Drew spent a lot of time on job sites with his dad, and watched many a house go from just a drawing on a piece of paper to a wooden framework to a fully realized home. Lately he’s also been inspired by the idea of renovating an older home and making it ‘new’ again. By the process of stripping parts of a house down to its bones, while leaving other parts standing in their original form.
You can see more of his work on his website . . .
